A beach with character
What makes Mala Beach unique is the mix of sand and pebbles, the hidden location and the beautiful views of the Mediterranean Sea. You’ll find both a public beach and two private beach sections with sun loungers, parasols and restaurants: Eden Plage Mala and La Réserve de la Mala. Here you can order food and drinks directly to your sun lounger – but prices are on the high end.
On the public part there are showers, lifeguards in high season and safety nets against firemen. The atmosphere is relaxed and natural, but still exclusive compared to many other coastlines.
Access and practical information
Mala Beach is reached by a long staircase of approximately 100 steps from Cap d’Ail’s town center or via the scenic coastal path, Sentier Littoral, which connects the beach to both Cap d’Ail and Monaco. The walk is an experience in itself with dramatic rock formations and uninterrupted views of the sea.
Parking in the area is limited, so it is recommended to take the train to Cap d’Ail station and walk from there. Bike, scooter or water taxi is also an option. The beach is not suitable for prams or people with walking difficulties.
Hikes and experiences in the area
The coastal path from Monaco to Mala Beach is particularly popular and offers both culture and nature. Along the way, you’ll pass historic villas and botanical gardens and gain insight into the aesthetic heritage of the Riviera. The route is approximately 2.6 km long and takes you through Cap d’Ail’s most picturesque landscape.
Tips for the visit
Bring bathing shoes and drinking water – and snorkeling gear if needed. The water is often crystal clear and ideal for a dip. In high season, consider booking sun loungers in advance, especially if you want to visit the beach restaurants. It is possible to arrive by boat taxi directly to the beach, which is both convenient and provides a great entry point.
