The city’s various markets
On the city’s website you can get an overview of the different markets and their opening hours.
Ventilation and good shade
In 1882, the mayor of Menton, Emile Biovès, decided to create a covered market. The project was carried out by Menton architect Adrien Rey (1865-1959). and was completed in 1898.
The building should meet two main conditions required for a well-functioning market: the need for very wide ventilation combined with the need to create as much shade as possible.
Good sun protection is established on the entire facade and forms a protected porch to the main entrance.
Aesthetic building
The architect did not forget the aesthetic. The building is animated by a great diversity of materials and colors: stone floor, plaster, brick, wood, ceramic decorations from the Mentonnaise Saïssi factory.
