The best vantage point for the 4 Baou Mountains
At the vantage point of Fernand Moutet, one can see beyond the Lubiane Valley and how the 4 Baous lie shoulder to shoulder and form a good protection against the cold northern winds.
The viewpoint is named after Fernand Moutet (1913-1993), a Provencal poet born in Arles and who, among other things, taught in Vence. He was awarded the Frederic Mitral Prize in 1957.
The 4 Baous are in order from the left:
- Baou des Blancs (673 meter)
- Baou des Noirs (678 meter)
- Baou de Saint-Jeannet (802 meter)
- Baou de la Gaude (796 meter)
They all offer spectacular views and great walking routes starting at Vence and Saint-Jeannet, respectively.
On the square you will also find an information board that shows you what you can see, as well as one of the city’s many fountains and exhibited art depending on the season.
The famous ash tree
If you turn your back to the mountains and look up to the city, you see the Place du Frêne with the famous ash tree with its very own history.
