Tour description – Hike to Le Haut Montet Caussols
The tour goes along the open limestone plateau between Gourdon and Caussols. The path is a fine, wide concrete path cast on top of the buried cables to the civil aviation radar station.
It winds pleasantly through the terrain up towards the radar station, and all the way there are fine views of the landscape and flora of the area.
From the top of Le Haut Montet, at an altitude of 1355 meters, there is a beautiful 360-degree view with the Mercantour mountains to the North and the coastline to the South. To the North, you can also see the Calern Observatory in Caussols.
The area is perfect to have a good picnic and enjoy the peace and the view from the top at the radar station.

Tour Start – Hike to Le Haut Montet Caussols
The tour begins from a small gravel parking lot on the edge of a wooded area between Gourdon and Caussols. To get here, follow the RD12 road from the roundabout in Gourdon towards Caussols. After 5.5 km, a sign to the left shows OBSERVATOIRE AMATEUR onto Chemin des Claps.
Follow Chemin des Claps for about 550 meters and turn left towards the parking lot. From here, simply follow the concrete path by walking over the stone setting on one of the sides of the gate.
You can also use the GPS route to the parking lot in the Google Maps at the end of the article.
