Entertainment for everyone in the Gendarmerie et Cinéma Museum
Welcome to the heart of Saint-Tropez, where the Gendarmerie et Cinéma Museum invites you inside for film enthusiasts, history buffs and families with children.
The Gendarmerie and Cinéma Museum is located in the building that housed the gendarmerie brigade from 1879 to 2003, and, for a time, also served as a film backdrop for the famous police films starring Louis de Funès.
A journey back to the era of French cinema
When you step inside, you encounter a number of film treasures, from vintage police uniforms in classic movies to rare behind-the-scenes shots that tell different stories. The interactive displays and original movie props take you on a journey back to the glamorous era of French cinema history.
In the museum, you can learn about the history of the building and the gendarmerie in Saint-Tropez, see what a gendarme’s office looked like in the 1960s and have the history of movies shot on the Var peninsula.
The visit continues with an insight into the gendarmes’ representation in films and an introduction to the history of cinema in Saint-Tropez, which is a great tribute to the cult film series “Le gendarme de Saint-Tropez”, with Louis de Funès!
