Interesting shopping at Carré d’Or
Especially in the streets rue Longchamp and rue Alphonse Karr, you will find the latest from the major French and foreign fashion houses for both women, men, and children.
Instead, head to rue de la Liberté, on the stretch from place Magenta to the west, if you want to look for truffles, oil, salmon, freshly made pasta, chocolate, or cookies.
In the finest little pastry shop, Maison Celine, you can enjoy a cup of coffee and a cake. It’s expensive but tastes heavenly! There is also a good little organic supermarket on place Grimaldi, which has both vegetables, cheese, and butchery products.
The city’s shady havens
If you fancy a slightly longer trip, several streets through Carré d’Or, in central Nice, have been renovated and are now the nicest havens in the city.
The streets have been one-way, cycle paths have been established and palm trees, trees, flowers, and shrubs have been planted along the road. The new streets have also attracted many specialty shops.
You can walk from rue de l’Hôtel des Postes, in the east, via rue de la Liberté and rue de la Buffa to boulevard Gambetta in the west. Or you can walk along rue Pastorelli, in the east, via rue du Maréchal Joffre and to boulevard Gambetta, in the west.
In brisk walking, the trip from east to west takes about half an hour. Along the way, there are great opportunities to take a rest, either in one of the well-maintained parks or with a cup of coffee at one of the many cafes.
