Photographs with social relevance

The museum aims to support the creation and experimentation of artists, both French and foreign, emerging and established.

The selection of current exhibitions is guided by the principle of connecting to reality through a selection of powerful and contemporary subjects, respecting gender equality and recognizing women photographers.

Mougins and photography

Photography plays a central role in Mougins, known for its rich artistic heritage, which has attracted numerous artists and photographers over the years, fascinated by the picturesque landscapes and unique light.

The Mougins Photographic Museum has further cemented the town’s status as a center for photographic art, with both local and international photographers exhibiting their work.

Photography has helped to preserve and communicate the city’s cultural heritage while creating a vibrant connection between past and present creative expression.

Newly renovated museum with historical heritage

Before the current and newly renovated photographic museum opened in 2021, the museum housed a large collection of photographs by André Villers (1930-2016).

André Villers was a French photographer best known for his portraits of artists and his close relationship with Pablo Picasso.

Villers moved to Mougins, where he met Picasso in 1953, beginning a long-lasting friendship and artistic collaboration. Villers’ photographic talent lay in his ability to capture the personality and creative processes of artists, and his images have documented many of the 20th century’s most influential artists, including Salvador Dalí, Marc Chagall and Jean Cocteau.

His work has helped to immortalize Mougins as a cultural center for art and photography.

Current exhibitions

The museum changes exhibitions 3-4 times a year, and the current exhibition can be seen here on the museum’s website.

A nice little photographic shop

With the desire to support artistic creation, the Mougins Center of Photography has chosen to present products in its store that differ from the usual “souvenir shops” in museums.

The ambition is to appeal to a large audience, both in terms of generation and social background, and offer a wide range of awards.
