Baguette recipe – ingredients (for 3 baguettes)
- 500 g wheat flour (preferably high protein)
- 350 ml lukewarm water
- 10 g salt
- 5 g dry yeast (or 15 g fresh yeast)
How to make a perfect baguette
1. Make the dough with patience
Start by dissolving the yeast in lukewarm water. Add flour a little at a time and stir gently. Let the dough rest for 30 minutes – this is called autolysis and makes your baguette recipe even better.
2. Kneading and first rise
Add salt and knead the dough for 8-10 minutes until smooth. Cover and leave to rise for 1.5-2 hours at room temperature.
3. Shaping baguettes
Divide the dough into three equal pieces and gently roll them into oblong baguettes. Let them rise for 45-60 minutes on a floured cloth or baking paper.
4. Baking with steam for crispy crust
Preheat the oven to 230°C and place a bowl of water in the bottom of the oven to create steam. Make 3-4 cuts in each baguette with a sharp knife. Bake for 20-25 minutes until your baguettes are golden and crispy.
5. Cooling and enjoyment
Let the baguettes cool on a wire rack to keep the crust crispy.

Tips for the best baguette recipe
✅ Long rise for better flavor – Raise the dough in the fridge overnight for a more authentic French baguette recipe.
✅ Use a baking stone – A baking stone or a preheated baking sheet will help give a crispier bottom.
✅ Steam in the oven is key – A bowl of water or a few ice cubes in the bottom of the oven ensures the perfect crust.
